Job Overview

Reporting to the Vice-President, Corporate Strategy and Regional Management, The Director, Policy and Planning, is responsible for IDRC’s strategic planning and management functions, including the provision of IDRC policy analysis, the gathering, processing and distribution of information of strategic and vital importance, strategic planning, networking on corporate issues, and liaising with the program areas to ensure that the President, the Chair and the Board of Governors, the Vice-President, Corporate Strategy and Regional Management, other senior managers and IDRC staff have the appropriate information, analysis and advice to address IDRC’s strategic challenges.

Candidate Profile

Education

  • Post graduate degree in a subject relevant to the Centre’s programs. Candidates with relevant professional qualification and with relevant experience will also be considered.


  • Experience

  • Extensive experience in strategic planning and policy analysis.
  • Extensive working experience in development institutions and/or research-based institutions, including management and supervision of personnel.
  • Working experience in the developing regions of the world.


  • Language

  • Bilingual (English and French) position at an advanced level

  •  

    Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Canadian foreign policy and Canadian policy on research, science and technology
  • Knowledge of the development research problematique in developing countries
  • Knowledge of the key government actors in the field of development aid and research support

          This position requires a willingness to undertake national and international travel (roughly 20 - 50 days per year).
