National Plan for the formation of Human Resources on ICTs in Costa Rica 2008-10-28
Based on the results of the IDRC-FLACSO project “Determinants of a knowledge-based industry in the ICT sector in Costa Rica” the Presidency of Costa Rica announced the creation of a tripartite commission (academia, private sector and government) to elaborate a National Plan for the Formation of Human Resources in the ICT sector. The research, coordinated by the Costa Rican Chamber of ICTs (CAMTIC) in collaboration with the University of Costa Rica and the National University, made headlines showing that in 2007 the lack of qualified human resources resulted in a loss of $72 M to the country.

The publication takes into account the experiences of EsLaRed’s component of the IDRC project “TRICALCAR: Weaving Community Based Wireless Networks in Latin America and the Caribbean”.
RELAC Platform Newsletter #7 is now available 2008-09-16
The RELAC Platform bulletin, output of the IDRC-Corporación Sur project “Regional Platform on Personal Computers Electronic-Waste in Latin America and the Caribbean” released its #7 issue on September 2008. The bulletin is available in Spanish and portrays information with regard to the efforts made by different initiatives on PC refurbishing in Latinoamerica.
The Andean ICT4D Network is launched 2008-09-12
The Andean ICT4D Network was launched on September 5, 2008 as a result of the IDRC-supported project ‘Communication for Influence: Building ICTD Networks’ executed by APC and as a conclusion to the workshop Growing Regional ICT Opportunities Collectively held in Quito, Ecuador from September 1-5, 2008 within the framework of the above-mentioned project.

Telework and the Disabled in Brazil 2008-07-01
On July 1st, 2008, the brazilian SACI Network, published an article by Leandra Migotto Certeza on the IDRC project "Telework and the Disabled (Latin America)" (104417).
