On 13 November 2006, IDRC was informed of a spam message written in French entitled "invitation," which falsely indicates, among other things, that IDRC is sponsoring an event in support of youth and AIDS in Benin and Canada. While IDRC does support a variety of health and other research initiatives, including conferences in developing countries, the one referenced in this message and sent by "d.acdi-cdri" <d.acdi-cdri@laposte.net>" is in no way an IDRC-supported initiative.
You are therefore cautioned against replying to such an invitation and from disclosing your personal information to the sources listed therein. All IDRC-run events are posted on our official Web site(s).
For more information on frauds involving the use of email (phishing), we encourage you to consult the Canadian Anti-Fraud Call Centre at phonebusters.com. Persons located in North America may also contact the Phone Busters hotline at 1-888-495-8501.
