IDRC’s work within LAC concentrates both on identifying new technical, institutional, and policy solutions to the region’s challenges, and on creating platforms where multiple players can
collaborate on confronting these problems.

Its programming reflects the diverse needs of Mesoamerica, the Caribbean, and South America. Three core goals underlie IDRC’s work:

  • upholding democracy, human rights, and accountable government; 
  • reducing vulnerability to disease, natural disasters, and the degradation of natural resources; and 
  • increasing opportunities for equitable economic growth and access to social safety nets and services.
