Bio

Rebeca Grynspan is the Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator and Regional Director of the Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean at United Nations Development Programme.
 
She was the Director of ECLAC Sub regional Headquarters in Mexico, and the International Food Policy Research Institute’s Board’s Co-Chair.  She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Program for the Support of Women's Leadership and Representation (PROLEAD) and is also a member of the Advisory Council of the magazine Pensamiento Iberoamericano.
 
As part of the Costa Rican Government, she has filled the following positions, among other: Second Vice-President of the country, Housing Minister, Coordinating Minister of Social Sector and Vice-Minister of Finance. She has collaborated as Counselor, Advisor and Researcher with Government institutions.
 
Ms. Grynspan has authored and co-authored numerous articles on social and economic policy, gender and poverty. Examples include: Inequidad: un tema clave (2007), Reflexiones sobre opciones estratégicas para reducir la pobreza, La desigualdad en las oportunidades en América Latina: una revisión crítica de los resultados de las últimas dos décadas (2005), Economic and Social Trends in Latin America: The bases for social discontent (2004), Tendencias económicas y sociales en Latinoamérica: Hacia una agenda con perspectiva de género (2003), Informal Citizens. Poverty, Informality and Social Exclusion in Latin America  (2002), Políticas económicas, gasto público y efectos según género (1998), Mujeres de maíz (1995).
 
Education: Ms. Grynspan studied Economy and Sociology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, has a BA in Economics from the University of Costa Rica and a MA from the University of Sussex.
