Competition Law in Action: Experiences from Developing Countries Taimoon Stewart, Julian Clarke, and Susan Joekes
2007-05-28
This book, released in May 2007, distils the lessons arising from a body of IDRC-financed research for the effective implementation of competition law.

International Money Transfer Services Market in Uzbekistan: Development, Competition and Trends Antimonopoly Policy Improvement Center (Under the State Committee of Republic of Uzbekistan on Demonopolization, Support of Competition and Entrepreneurship). 2005.
This study examines money transfers from Uzbek migrant workers to their families in Uzbekistan. Given that bank penetration among the Ubek population is low, money transfers play an important role in establishing financial links between migrants and their families. This study focuses upon the importance of open markets in the provision of financial services and draws from the results of a population survey to support the contention that monopolistic practices in the financial services industry can have a major impact on social welfare. This conclusion is placed against a background of nascent regulatory reform in Uzbekistan’s financial sector and has implications for governance, competition, open market reforms and social welfare.
