Abstract

Over the past 10 years, IDRC has supported a number of research projects in the area of conservation and valorization of agricultural biodiversity in several West African countries (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Sénégal, Togo). Some of the research results were disseminated during the lives of the projects in question, but others were not. This grant will support a four-day workshop bringing together researchers, peasant organizations, the agrifood processing sector, hoteliers and restaurateurs, micro finance institutions, nongovernmental organizations, the media, and policymakers in order to share this considerable mass of research results on wild fruit, minor or threatened useful plants, and useful but undervalued plants. An exposition and tasting will be organized for their benefit. Four journalists will participate in the seminar, submitting daily reports to their newspapers and the Internet. The project will also serve to develop a common agenda for future research and development interventions.
