Abstract
African Insect Science for Food and Health (icipe) has introduced organic commercial insect farming in Mwinga district, eastern Kenya, and established a silk and honey marketplace. To date, 1 013 members have registered in the organic farming project and 52 farmer groups have registered at the marketplace. This project will document and evaluate the role of organic commercial insect farming in alleviating poverty and sustaining human and environmental health in the fragile dryland ecosystem of Mwinga district, eastern Kenya. The study will also provide baseline data for guiding future initiatives to address human health and environmental issues.
