Abstract
Over the last 10 years, a group of university professors and researchers in West and Central Africa have adopted ecosystem approaches to human health (Ecohealth) in the design and implementation of their projects. In March 2006, by way of the Dakar Declaration, university authorities in Bénin, Burkina-Faso, Cameroon and Côte-d'Ivoire undertook to institutionalize Ecohealth in their institutions with the assistance of members of the West and Central African Community of Practice in Ecohealth (COPEH). This project will integrate the Ecohealth approach into master's programs offered by the universities of Abomey Calavi in Bénin, Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, Abobo Adjamé and Cocody in Côte d'Ivoire and the National Polytechnical School, University of Yaoundé in Cameroon. The health sciences faculty at the Université d"Abomey Calavi will coordinate the project. The project will have a training component (classroom and distance), offer bursaries on a competitive basis and make research grants to teams of teachers and students from the participating universities.
