Abstract

In 2006-2007, IDRC supported the initial phase of Strategies for Health Insurance for Equity in Less Developed Countries (SHIELD) in Ghana, South Africa and Tanzania under project 103457. The project generated three detailed reports, one for each country. The research team would like to disseminate the findings through peer-reviewed journal articles. Last summer, the Bulletin of the World Health Organization issued a call for submissions for a special issue on healthcare financing and universal coverage. The SHIELD research is likely to be of interested to the editors of the special issue, and would bring recognition to the project and its findings. This grant will allow three members from each country team to conduct a collaborative cross-country analysis of the project findings and draft an article for submission to the Bulletin of the World Health Organization. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for SHIELD researchers to hone their writing skills and undertake analytical work with their European counterparts.
