Abstract
Two earlier conferences were organized by the University of Cape Coast on the themes of Microfinance Capacity Building for Poverty Reduction in Ghana and Sustaining Microfinance in Ghana. This grant will contribute to the third conference in the annual series, Microfinance : a Tool for Achieving the Millennium Development Goals in Africa. The expectation is to move beyond anecdotal evidence of best practices by calling on academics, professionals and especially microfinance practitioners to present papers on the actual - not the perceived - gains of microfinance, and assess the impact of the industry within the framework of the Millennium Development Goals.
