Abstract
Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) - one of the oldest French language universities in West Africa - celebrates 50 years of existence in 2007. Since its creation in 1957, the university has played an important role in the development of West African countries by training human resources. UCAD is, moreover, an important beneficiary of IDRC aid. IDRC is its foremost partner in terms of research support and its second most important in terms of research financing. It was therefore natural that UCAD should request assistance from IDRC to organize a session on cooperation, 4-6 December 2007 and to remit a prize at the Gala of Merit, 24 November 2007. IDRC support will consist of a technical and a financial component. An IDRC program officer will make a presentation on IDRC and how to submit a request for financing. The grant will allow the purchase and delivery of two or three laptop computers to deserving doctoral students in the course of writing their theses.
