Abstract
In order to offer a choice of instruction and attain universal education, the government of Sénégal has decided to make religious education part of education policy. To this end, the academic inspectorate of the region of Saint-Louis in partnership with the Paul Gérin Lajoie Foundation have undertaken a program of modernizing Koranic schools. IDRC financed part of the program under the title, Modern Education for Young Talibe : Content Development (103881). Working in participation with seven school administrators, researchers designed a curriculum that augments Koranic studies with courses in French, mathematics, history and geography and later on workshops in manual skills. A two-day workshop will be organized for all actors involved so that they can share, amend and validate the new curriculum and the various documents that accompany it.
