Abstract
The Think Tank Initiative is a multi-donor program dedicated to strengthening independent policy research institutions or "think tanks" in developing countries, enabling them to provide sound research that both informs and influences policy. The first stage of the Think Tank Initiative involves the selection of a group of promising independent policy research organizations. This grant will fund three different activities under the diagnostic and assessment phase: institutional visits, peer-review of research outputs and document analysis. Specifically, the grant will support an institutional diagnosis of approximately 40 research centres in West and East Africa by external consultants; a peer review of up to 140 research outputs submitted by the research institutions under study by external consultants; and an analysis of all documentation concerning each candidate on file at IDRC. This would include regional controller reports, risk assessments and trip reports, and be undertaken by a junior consultant.
