IPS Director, Richard Isnor, participated in the First Conference of the Inter-American Network of Academies of Science (IANAS) on June 7-8, 2007. The Conference held on Margarita Island, Venezuela had as its theme "Strengthening S&T in the Americas: A Tool for Development, Social Inclusion and Democracy
". Dr. Isnor participated in the panel “S&T Policies and Funding in the Americas” beside representatives from the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (BID), and the Ministry of S&T of Venezuela.
The Conference was hosted by the Academy of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences of Venezuela and allowed IANAS member Academies to discuss regional S&T capacity building, the role of the Academies and the actions of IANAS in the past three years. Major regional stakeholders were invited to participate in the conference and provided their views to enrich the debate.
