Partnership between IDRC and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to launch the International Community-University Research Alliance Program (CURA)
Prev News 20 of 55 Next
IDRC and SSHRC joined efforts to invest up to $6.27 million over the next six years to support international research alliances under the International Community-University Research Alliance Program (CURA). This partnership will engage teams from Canada and developing countries in comparing and collaborating on their research, while working with people in communities that will directly benefit from the research.
The rationale behind the CURA program is that many of today’s international development challenges are best addressed by postsecondary institutions working closely with groups that represent particular communities of interest. The CURA program strives  to create stronger alliances between community organizations and postsecondary institutions both in Canada and in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) believing that this strategy can be enormously effective and yield important benefits for all.

Through a call for proposals closing on November 21, 2007, up to nine proposals will receive seed funding—as much as $30,000 each—to develop a research alliance that involves both Canadian and LMIC researchers and community partners. Three alliances will then be funded to a maximum of $2 million each over five years. All proposals will be selected through international peer review to ensure they meet the highest standards of excellence.

All future information regarding the CURA program will be announced at the SSHRC website at http://www.sshrc.ca/web/apply/program_descriptions/cura_idrc_e.asp and on the IPS Research Partnerships Challenge Fund at www.idrc.ca/challenge.
