The Business and Economy Department of the University Alberto Hurtado from Chile, with the sponsorship of the Chilean National Research Council (CONICYT), the World Bank, and other institutions, organized the International Seminar “Innovation and Technology in Chile: New opportunities and new tools” on September 6-7 2007.

More than 200 academics and representatives of the private sector gathered in CasaPiedra, Santiago de Chile to discuss and analyze different perspectives on innovation and technology in the Andean country. The discussions focused on the big questions being asked by diverse social, economic, politic and academic actors in Chile around the country’s transition to the knowledge society.

Gustavo Crespi, Senior Program Officer from IDRC’s ITS program initiative was invited to speak on “Global Knowledge Networks”.  He discussed on the roles of multinational companies as vehicles for knowledge transfer, technological upgrading and catching-up.

The Seminar’s agenda, presentations and photos can be accessed at www.seminarioinnovacion.cl/html/presentacion_seminario.html
