China-India Consultation Workshop on Experiences in Innovation for Development

New Delhi, India will host from November 22 to 24, 2007 the “China-India Consultation Workshop on Experiences in Innovation for Development”. The workshop is being funded by IDRC and co-sponsored by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), China Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), China National Science Foundation and the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi, and organized by the Centre for Studies in Science Policy (CSSP) JNU, New Delhi in collaboration with the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), New Delhi and Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Trivandrum. 
 
The workshop will enable the participation of scientists, management experts and development economists of India and China, who will share their experience in promoting innovation for development. The objective is to create a joint research and learning program towards a pro-active and well-informed policy-making community in the two countries.
 
As innovation is a key driver of change in both China and India, this workshop aims to promote research for innovation –led policies for socially inclusive economic development.  It would also bring together a dynamic and inter-disciplinary community of innovation system scholars who would act as an interface between policymakers, industry, academia and those involved in development field.
 
Dr. R. Chidambaram, Chairman, Scientific Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister   will inaugurate the workshop while the Chinese Ambassador in New Delhi and IDRC’s Regional Director for South Asia and China will speak on the occasion. Shri. Jairam Ramesh, Indian Minister of State for Commerce will deliver the valedictory address on the 24 November.
 
Among those who are expected to attend are Prof Rakesh Basant, Prof Anil Gupta and Pankaj Chandra from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India, Prof Anuj Chaddha and Prof Arvind Dhillon from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and experts from JNU, Centre for Development Studies, Centre for Policy Research, National Institute for Science, Technology and Development Studies and Research and Information Systems.  The Chinese participants are from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tianjin University, Tshinghua University and Chinese Embassy, New Delhi.
