IDRC has been supporting research in Ghana since 1973. The Centre’s history of support in Ghana mirrors the country’s political, social, and economic development. In the 1970s, IDRC’s research focused on agriculture, fish-farming, and small enterprise development.
 
Following the birth of a multiparty system in Ghana in 1992, IDRC increased its support, focusing on emerging priorities such as urban agriculture, information and communication technologies, natural resource management, and poverty monitoring.
