The Context

In March 2004, the Manhica Pilot Telecentre (funded under project 004227) was turned over to an entity representing community interests, the Manhica Telecentre Association (ATM). Since then, the telecentre has been functioning normally and generating enough revenue to cover salaries and running costs. It now operates a small community radio station as well. In view of the need for expansion, the Canadian High Commission agreed to finance the construction of a new telecentre on land donated by the town council. The building is now nearly ready and the move is being organized. This grant will be used to complete the connectivity infrastructure to ensure that the telecentre is operational from the moment it opens its doors.

Project Objectives

To assist in topping up the finances required for the Manhiça telecentre's move into new premises. The new building was funded by the Canadian High Commission in Mozambique but further funding is required to complete ICT installations before the telecentre can become operational.
