Institution: IDRC Region: Sub-Saharan Africa | Africa Start Date: 2005/04 The Context Connectivity Africa (CA) and Catalysing Access to Information and Communication Technologies in Africa (CATIA) are two initiatives that came out of the G8 Digital Opportunity Taskforce (G8 Dot Force). Although the two programs are different in nature and objectives, they share a single Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee meets every 6 months to review the programs’ progress toward their stated objectives and provide strategic advice. This grant will support participation in the joint CATIA Advisory Committee Meeting in Dakar, Sénégal, 26-27 April 2005. It is expected that the advisors will approve, comment on and endorse the workplans of both initiatives for the next 6 months. Project Objectives To support the attendance of Connectivity Africa’s (CA) advisors to the joint CA and Catalysing Access to ICTs in Africa (CATIA) Advisory Committee Meeting, which will take place in Dakar, Senegal, on 26 and 27 April 2005, in conjunction with the Acacia-CA team meeting. The Advisory Committee meets every 6 months to provide strategic advice to CA and CATIA program management teams and to review how both programs are achieving their stated objectives. To review the report of CATIA and CA management teams; to discuss and provide input on project progress and on any emerging issues; to follow-up on the recommendations of the last Advisory Committee meeting which took place in Mauritius, 13 September 2004; to review the work plan of both programs for the next year; to identify and discuss any opportunities the two programs could implement in order to better achieve their objectives; and to identify potential partnership opportunities.
