IDRC has been supporting research in Rwanda for more than three decades.
 
During the 1970s and 1980s, the Centre’s partners found ways to improve the yields of such important food crops as sorghum, oilseeds, cassava, sweet potatoes, and bananas. In the 1990s, after the genocide, IDRC resumed its support to improve agricultural practices, cereals, and root crops and expanded into areas that contributed to national reconstruction. Since 2000, IDRC has supported activities to ensure that the lessons learned from the genocide are not forgotten.
