Senegal is generally considered one of Africa’s model democracies. The country has a multi-party system and a tradition of civilian rule. Although poverty is widespread and unemployment is high, Senegal has one of the region’s more stable economies.
 
IDRC has a long history of supporting research in the country and has maintained its regional office for West and Central Africa in the capital, Dakar, since 1972.
 
The Centre is currently supporting research activities related to information and communication technologies (ICTs), health, and natural resource management.
