Financing for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment

In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD), the International Development Research Centre is hosting a half-day event followed by a networking lunch, in Ottawa.

The IWD event is being led by IDRC’s Women’s Rights and Citizenship (WRC), and Globalization, Growth and Poverty (GGP) programs.

This event will build on IDRC’s participation in the 52nd session o f the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). This year the theme of CSW is: “financing for gender equality and women’s empowerment.”

This event will provide a forum for IDRC-supported partners to present their research findings and recommendations on key issues linked to the CSW theme. It will also facilitate public discussion and exchange on the issues.

The IDRC event will focus on two aspects of the CSW theme:

* Mobilizing taxes for gender equality and women's empowerment
* Engaging local government in gender-responsive budgeting and planning
