Planning for Demographic Change

One of the important policy issues which requires further analysis, and which is one area of focus for EASF, is the enormous developmental challenge of repatriating, settling, or resettling large numbers of refugees in the West Bank and Gaza in the aftermath of an eventual permanent status agreement. The success or failure of this process will affect and shape the future of Palestinian society and its long-term development. Although it is assumed that many refugees will choose to settle in their host country and others will choose to emigrate to third countries, many will return to the Palestinian state where population growth within the Palestinian territories (one of the highest in the world) will also require increased planning and operational capacity on the part of the Palestinian Authority.
