Bio

Suzanne joined the Urban Poverty and Environment (UPE) Program in January 2008 as a research intern. Her research focuses on the relationship between the access to water and sanitation, land tenure and land markets in the Global South, with Colombo, Sri Lanka being her central case study. Suzanne's research experience from completing her Masters on alternative water governance models in Latin America has provided her with the necessary skills and foundation for her research protocol with the UPE team.

Suzanne graduated with a Masters of Arts (M.A.) from the Department of Geography at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2008. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in International Relations from UBC, where she focused on global environmental politics and development issues.

Her research experience includes measuring the feasibility of water cooperatives in poor peri-urban areas in Buenos Aires (Argentina), and investigating the impact of water privatization in Buenos Aires, Cochabamba (Bolivia), and Jakarta (Indonesia). She has also studied water governance in Canada and transboundary water disputes such as the Devil's Lake Diversion between Manitoba and North Dakota. Suzanne's research history illustrates her ability to work in diverse environments, both in Canada and abroad.

Research Interests: Water governance, poverty reduction, and urban land tenure in the Global South, particularly in Latin America and South Asia.
