New Director for IDRC’s West and Central Africa Office

Kathryn Touré will soon be appointed Regional Director for IDRC’s West and Central Africa Office, in Dakar, Senegal. She will replace Gilles Forget who is retiring after 25 years with the Centre.

“Kathryn brings with her more than 20 years of experience in international work, both in the public and private sectors,” said IDRC President David Malone.

“Her most recent assignment as Regional Coordinator with the Educational Research Network for West and Central Africa in Bamako, Mali, places her in an enviable position to understand the development challenges of the region and to act on them. I am confident that Kathryn will continue the good work done by Gilles and that she will be an active contributor to the advancement of the Centre’s mandate.”

New Director for IDRC’s Innovation, Policy and Science Program Area

Naser Faruqui has been selected as director of IDRC’s Innovation, Policy and Science (IPS) program area.

Since joining IDRC in 1995, Faruqui has developed, monitored, and managed projects related to water resources management, water supply and sanitation, and the environment. He was most recently team leader of IDRC’s Urban Poverty and Environment program.

Faruqui has a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Ottawa and an executive masters of business administration from Queen’s University.

In 1999, he was named a Next-Generation Water Leader by the Third World Centre for Water Management, the International Water Resources Association, and the Stockholm International Water Institute.
