IDRC is pleased to announce that Lauchlan T. Munro has been named Vice-President, Corporate Strategy and Regional Management, effective October 20, 2008.

“With the appointment of Lauchlan to this new position, to which the Regional Directors and the Directors of Communications, Evaluation, and Policy and Planning will report, the Centre will strengthen its ability to face future challenges,” said IDRC President David Malone.

Munro is a socio-economist and strategic planner with extensive international experience. He had been the Director of IDRC’s Policy and Planning Group since 2004.

Before joining the Centre in 2003, Munro held various positions at UNICEF in New York, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, and Uganda. He was also a member of the Royal Bhutanese Civil Service and taught economics and project management at universities in the United States, United Kingdom, and Bhutan. He has published widely on human rights, social security in developing countries, and aid effectiveness.

Munro holds a PhD in economics from the Institute for Development Policy and Management at the University of Manchester and a master’s in development studies from the University of Toronto.
