EMDU-1 was the first stage of the program developed to clean up Ukraine's Dnipro River basin - source of 70% of the country's drinking water. The project began in the summer of 1994 and finished in the fall of 1998 and it has evolved into a revamp of Ukrainian environmental policy and public attitudes. Since the program was launched in 1994, with funding from the Renaissance Fund, then managed by DFAIT (CIDA took over in 1995). The program had a number of interrelated activities in recognition of the need to develop a multidisciplinary approach to river management. Here you will find the program description, reports and other materials, which depict the environmental rehabilitation of the Dnipro River system through the collaborative efforts of Ukrainian and Canadian institutions and organizations.
