Abstract

This project consists in getting the rural community of Malanville, Benin, and other national partners, involved in the process of developing an affordable and sustainable multi-purpose community telecentre (MCT) model. The MCT will be installed in Malanville and will provide this community with access to information and communications technologies (ICT) to improve rural development. The specific objectives are to define the means to set up a viable MCT in the Benin context; to develop and test various methods, strategies and policies to make the MCT a real community terminal, to assess the social, economic and cultural impact of the MCTs as concerns district, regional and national development; and to contribute to better national and international understanding of the importance of information and communications technologies in terms of development and to better understand the relation between the modern ICT and rural development.
