Abstract
African universities underestimate the importance of market orientation in financial management. This has lead to the decline in the quality of teaching and research. To prevent further deterioration and achieve an improvement, universities will have to address the problem of scarce resources, particularly of government origin; the gulf between objectives assigned by authorities and the available means; and the absence of a market-oriented research "output". This project will undertake a pilot research project at the University of Yaoundé (Cameroun) and will study the possibility of alternative financing, apart from traditional sources, specifically by the marketing of research as well as education. The latter will be achieved by identifying research needs of the government of Cameroun, foundations, and private firms. The project will result in a marketing guide for the benefit of university administrators; case studies; an analysis of the university management system in Cameroun; and a strategic action plan.
