Abstract

Members of the University of Ottawa team from the IDRC-supported project, "97-1054 (02070) Social Policy Reforms and Adolescents at Risk of Violence (Global)," will organize a three-day workshop to enable the national country coordinators to review and revise the proposed national and umbrella projects on the subject. The specific objectives of the workshop will be: a) to establish a research partnership between the national teams and the coordination; b) to discuss key issues related to research concepts, indicators, methodologies, dissemination activities, timeframes, and financial and material needs; c) to finalize the umbrella proposal for submission to IDRC during the first two weeks of August; and d) to prepare a draft proposal for each case study, which will be sent to IDRC at the end of July.

In order for the national teams to prepare for this workshop, they will have to draft national proposals to be circulated among the participants in advance of the workshop. This will allow for useful feedback and shared insights. The draft of the umbrella project has already been shared with the participants and will serve as a common framework, although it is expected that each national project will be grounded in its own specific context. This grant will allow representatives of the national teams of Kenya, Côte d'Ivoire and Brazil to travel to Ottawa to take part in the workshop, to be held during July 14-17, 1997.
