Abstract

The study of the phenomenon of fertility of adolescent girls concerns all countries South of the Sahara. Legitimate or illegitimate adolescent fertility contributes greatly to the rate of population growth. This project to be undertaken in the Côte d'Ivoire, is part of two networks in place in the region. It will analyze the data of the "Enquête ivoirienne de fécondité" (EIF), in order to measure the level, the evolution and to better understand fertility in adolescent girls. Researchers will also study contraceptive practices. Data will be collected from health centres in order to assess the medical consequences of precocious fertility. The project will contribute to the development of research and training capacities in demographic and statistical analysis. Also the project will enable government authorities and non-governmental organizations to propose concrete actions favourable to youth.
