Abstract

The poorly developed communication infrastructure within Papua New Guinea impedes the flow of information and data within the country. The objectives of this project are to create a data base of New Guinean information materials; to deposit microfiche copies of the publications in five strategic locations throughout the country, thus establishing an information network and document delivery system; and to commence automation of the cataloguing operations of the University of Papua New Guinea's library.

Post-Project Summary

This project produced the five volume "New Guinea Bibliography". The bibliography is a list, in subject order, of all monographs, pamphlets, theses, reports, government documents, seminar papers, and journals that were published either in New Guinea, or that deal with Papua New Guinea or Irian Jayan topics. It includes material up to the end of 1983. The listing is based on the holdings of the major libraries in Papua New Guinea, particularly the holdings of the New Guinea Collection at the University of Papua New Guinea. The subjects covered by the bibliography include: librarianship; philosophy; religion; sociology; anthropology; ethnology; the arts; politics; administration; law; economics; commerce; transport; psychology; education; languages; literature; science; medicine; applied sciences; agriculture; geography; history; and, periodicals, serials, and annuals published in or dealing with New Guinea.
