Abstract
Habitat in Guinea, particularly in the capital Conakry, is facing several specific problems: lack of infrastructure and housing; varying bioclimatic conditions; absence of an architecture capable of responding to housing problems; high cost of construction; fast deterioration of existing dwellings; and insufficient sanitation. By relying on architectural science and engineering, and adapting scientific concepts to Conakry's reality, this project will provide acceptable and affordable housing for the poor through reduced construction costs. Researchers will be oriented toward the utilization of socially and culturally acceptable local standardized materials, and will consider simple easy-to-implement solutions. The project will promote self-construction through community participation, and through the training of craftsmen and technicians.
