Abstract
Mali, Mauritania, and Senegal are associated in the "Organisation pour la mise en valeur du fleuve Sénégal" (OMVS) for the development of the river basin which covers a considerable part of their territory. Under the auspices of this body, but also with the participation of a variety of community organizations, these states will undertake the construction of two dams, at Diama and Manantali. Given the inclusion in this undertaking of organizations hitherto not covered by the Centre régional de documentation (CRD) of the OMVS, an adaptation of its information dissemination methods to the needs of the new users is required. This project will consolidate the existing documentation system and adapt the utilization of existing databases and banks; develop collections of vulgarization documents in local (vernacular) languages; initiate programs for education and information directed towards the new participants; organize the training of the Centre's personnel and participating national organizations; and promote the exchange of the information.
