Abstract

One of the obstacles to training researchers in Mozambique in participatory rural appraisal (PRA) is the lack of Portuguese-language training tools. The need for such a resource was underscored at the First International Exchange of PRA practitioners held in Guinea Bissau in April 1998. This grant will support the making of a video in Portuguese on two PRA exercises taking place in Manica province. The first will be conducted by FOS, a Belgian non-governmental organization (NGO) working in the field of agricultural development, and the second by CONCERN, an Irish NGO working in community development. Both organizations have wide experience with PRA and adhere to the principles of participatory learning and action for the empowerment of the community. A professional video company based in Mozambique, Iris Imaginacoes, will produce the video. One hundred copies will be made and distributed inside and outside Mozambique.
