Campus meets Community: The International Community-University Research Alliance (ICURA) program
 
ITS On June 29th, the Government of Canada announced the 4 Alliances awarded under the International Community-University Research Alliance (ICURA) program. This is a joint funding initiative of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), supporting four research teams carrying out research projects on coastal adaptation to climate change, the impact of poverty on the environment, services for at-risk youth, and mental health.

The book “The Future Control of Food” wins another prize
 
Geoff Tansey and Tasmin Rajotte, authors of The Future Control of Food: A Guide to International Negotiations and Rules on Intellectual Property, Biodiversity and Food Security, were the joint winners of the Derek Cooper Award for Campaigning and Investigative Food Writing. This book, published with the support of ITS, is the first wide-ranging guide to the key issues of intellectual property and ownership, genetics, biodiversity, and food security.

Scientific capacity building in Latin America, a priority for IANAS

The Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences of Guatemala will host the IANAS Workshop “Science Funding Landscape in Central and South Americas & the Caribbean Region” in Guatemala City on July 26-28, 2009. This workshop is being organized in a partnership with the National Council for Science and Technology Research (CONCYT); the International Development Research Centre (IDRC); and the InterAcademy Panel on International Issues (IAP).

Results on South-South collaborations on genomics and health biotechnology will be presented in Ottawa

In a public event to be held on October 22, 2009 at IDRC, the results of an exhaustive examination of collaborations in genomics and health biotechnology among developing countries will be presented. This research aimed to understand what factors and conditions contribute to successful South-to-South collaboration.

New books from ITS-funded research are now available

IDRC has co-published the research outcomes from some of the Innovation, Technology and Science program-supported projects. Ranging from Intellectual Property Rights and food control, to energy use for development, and case studies of knowledge systems, these books are of great interest to development policy-makers, researchers, academics and anyone interested in science and innovation for development.

Fighting poverty in Asia, using bio-innovations

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) from Bangkok announced the 7 winners of the first Small Grants Competition of the Enabling Bio-innovation for Poverty Alleviation in Asia Programme. The Programme, supported by ITS, is expected to identify policies, institutional arrangements and practices conducive to pro-poor bio-innovation in the region.
