IDRC’s operations in Southeast and East Asia are guided by its regional office in Singapore, established in 1971. The office coordinates the Centre’s operations in 12 countries. In the past 30 years, IDRC has supported more than 2 000 research projects directed and managed by Asian researchers and institutions.

Asia’s information society: what’s worked, what’s next? 2009-06-05
Penang, Malaysia, June 8, 2009 – No one argues about the impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) on Asia. India leveraged ICTs to drive its economy and lift millions out of dire poverty. Scratch the surface, however, and it is easy to see that ICTs have also deepened development disparities. Rural Asians, for example, remain among this planet’s poorest and the most underserved by health, education, and economic programs. See here for more details.
APEIR Research Contributes to Addressing Emerging Infectious Diseases 2009-05-20
The current global crisis related to Influenza A (H1N1) shows that there is still insufficient understanding of the emergence of diseases with pandemic potential and governments need research-based evidence to develop policies in situations of great urgency. The Asian Partnership for Emerging Infectious Diseases Research (APEIR) is a regional initiative which is contributing to addressing these needs. Its role in fostering regional research collaborations was recognized in a Joint Ministerial Statement issued by ASEAN+3 Health Ministers Special Meeting on Influenza A in Bangkok, Thailand on 8 May 2009. Jakarta is City Most Vulnerable Climate Change in Southeast Asia 29/04/2009
The National Council on Climate Change (Dewan Nasional Perubahan Iklim) of Indonesia is co-organizing with IDRC-EEPSEA a Seminar to launch the Climate Change Vulnerability Map in Jakarta on Thursday, May 7, 2009, from 8.30Am – 11.00AM at the Shangri-La Hotel and to invite feedback from policy-makers, climate change experts and the media. Mapping Climate Change Vulnerability in Southeast Asia 2009-02-25
A new map has been released which shows the regions of Southeast Asia most vulnerable to climate change. According to the research carried out by the International Development Research Centre’s Economy and Environment Program for Southeast Asia (IDRC – EEPSEA), the map and forecasts will be highly valuable to policymakers, as well as agencies investing in local adaptations to climate change.
